My kids, getting along...

I wish I had taken the camera outside yesterday. They were playing so nice in the snow together! But I do have a pic of them the last time it snowed, so I'll put that here. The Prince even helped the Princess shovel the steps to the front porch, they shared a shovel, because we only had one they could use.

The funny part is that I can see my brother & sister in them every day (no genetics in common so it can't be their looks!) I am the oldest my brother 2 years younger & my sister 4 years younger. They used to beat the tar out of each other, just like my kiddos do. I guess when they do bicker back & forth it gives me hope that one day the Princess will need her big brother to stick up for her & he'll be there like the good Prince that he is...

The Prince had spent the night at my parents house & then they took him to my sisters house, so he didn't even come home until 4PM. Boy did the Princess miss him! So we suited up & went out side to shovel out from the last snow. They had fun & dh & I got our exercise for the day (have I mentioned that we have 1/4 mile of driveway & sidewalk....) It was a little chilly (14 F) so we didn't keep them out too long.

Once we got inside they went back to it, I think over a bag of pretzels... Ahh peace maybe it can only be found in a snowball fight!!!

I am...

I am a baby girl born to two teenagers on December 24 the who, thankfully had the brains to give me up to 2 lovely people.

I am the toddler whose only memories from preschool invlove boys chasing me & a big kid breaking my pinky with a tinker toy.

I am the school girl who bit her tongue doing a flip on the bar over the slide, causing the school nurse to freak out, me getting 4 stitches & no more old playground. Sorry & you are welcome all at the same time, because the new playground was much cooler!

I am the teenager who was shall we say rebellious, sure why not! More like her genetic parents than her adopted parents cared to think about. Then meeting "Mr. Right" at 16 & never looking back. (ok, well only sometimes looking back, it has been 17 years after all, yikes)

I am the girl walking down the isle at 20, because she wanted to. Finding a path that was not really hers, but still feeling strangly comfortable.

I am the woman whose water broke on her 5th anniversary in the bathroom of a Ruby Tuesday's, then had to sit for a 30 minute car ride to the hospital with dh's best friend (male) patting me on the shoulder telling me I'm doing fine (did I say single male). To finally after 6 hours of slightly drugged labor give birth to a 9 pound baby boy.

I am the woman whose water didn't break, and had to endure a 10 minute ride at 1:45 AM to the hospital (15 we had to drop the Prince off) feeling like I was going to die, to be handed a specimin cup & a gown. Watching the PA stare at me with a deer-in-the-headlights glare & finally having the Dr. show up & say ok push, giving birth to a "veiled" 8 pound 11 oz baby girl (for those keeping up that would be 20 minutes tops at the hospital) "Veiled" meaning she delivered with the placenta, don't ask me I was in too much pain to care. Did I mention they still charged me full price...

I am the woman who MADE her husband go get fixed, because I did not want to have to check into the hospital a week before my due date, just so I could be there & avoid a home birth.

I am the woman who still has no idea what she wants to be when she grows up. But I do know that I want to be the best Mom I can be, so at least I have goals!!!

I gather this was some kind of graduate project, but still.

Home tool must haves from Eric Stromer...

Eric Stromer's Home tool must haves
A power drill & a tool bucket! Well if it were that simple, then why does my dh need half the 2 car garage for a work shop??? hmmmmm.

I love Clean Sweep, and he is one of the major reasons! I often feel that they should revisit the homes to see how they are doing. (I am also not convinced that they don't tell people to throw all their junk into the 2 rooms that they are doing, cuz I know that I would be hauling stuff out by the box load if that was really my room, no way I'd want that seen on TV!!!)

I think his personal website needs a clean sweep, no new news since 2006, dude, you too busy with all your tv apperances!!!???

Didn't realize...

That it had been so long since I posted here. I haven't done any sewing, lately. The basement has been too cold, since the below freezing temperatures finally arrived!!!

I am working on acquiring some new fabric (but with a purpose). I need to sew a curtain to cover my closet. We installed a closet system in our bedroom in what used to be an awkward nook (it was just big enough to house our king sized bed, but no room for the alarm clock...) So now it is a wide open spanse of shelving & hanging clothes, so I would like to cover it. I figure I will need to get at least 8+ yards. I'd like to get more so I can sew matching valences for the 4 windows.

Ah it's snowing again, maybe I'll grab the space heater & head down to the basement & work on my tooth pillow!

Appliqued pillow for tooth fairy

Well I have been totally distracted by the headband pattern! I have made 5 for myself (I guess I'm a headband nut) & 3 for the Princess!

I only made one more set of matching ones though. SO far I made myself one in black micro suede, brown micro suede, green floral cotton & burgundy/gold holly print (for Christmas of course!) The Princess is getting a fun bright lady bug print & one in the burgundy & holly print.

I am heading down today to work on my Penny & Paul appliques (Little Wool Gatherings, free templates)as I have finally decided how I am going to use them. I am going to make pillows for teeth! The Prince has lost his second tooth already & I being the great procrastinator has not made anything to put the tooth in. So I am thinking very simple square pillow with Paul appliqued on the front & a Pocket on the back. I will have to dig out the John Deere Tractor print again...

I'll post pictures as soon as I have something to take a picture of!!!

Ok, so sometimes I can get a little sidetracked (duh!) So I started Lisa's Cookbook to keep me on top of the age old question, what's for dinner??? Tonight I am making Oven French Toast - Caramel.

Organization Update

I spent some time folding fabrics & putting them in totes. All of my UFOs are in plastic baskets or small shoe boxes. I still have 2 totes to empty then put my fabric in (right now they have old clothes for recycling).

I did get sidetracked by making the headbands, but it is so hard to be surrounded by my stuff & not play a little!!! Thankfully the headbands didn't take long at all, before I had finished projects!

My cutting table is cleared off (only the mat & a pressing pad are on there now). The sewing machine table is getting clearer, I still have some magazines to put away & the thread box needs to find a more permanent home, but the random shoe boxes have found better homes... The ironing board is buried under the fabric yet to be put away, and the longer counter is only half done.

SO it is still a work in progress, I'll snap pics once I am not absolutely petrified to go in there!!!

Headband pic

I made this one (and a matching one for the Princess last night). They were a snap to make. The only problem I had was turning the tie part of the smaller size, it was a little narrow!
I will make more of these they are comfortable & stay put well. I will try the next one with a layer of canvas (if I had heavy interfacing I'd use that) to try & make it stiffer.

Hooray for Headbands

Heather Bailey at HELLO my name is Heather has developed a gorgeous headband pattern, that she has for free (I love free!!!). It is on the widget side under free patterns.

Happy New Year - My 2007 Goals

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I hope everyone had a fun safe New Years Eve!

So I've had a couple of weeks to work on this list, still think it's a work in progress, but here is what I've got so far.

1. Teach my children respect for money. How to save, budget, spend wisely, plan for the future, what really is rich, etc…. You know all that stuff I haven't figured out!!!

2. Save money, we need to have an emergency fund in place.

3. ORGANIZE!!! I have decluttered lots of stuff, now it's time to get what I have into a home!

4. Continue to exercise & do healthy things. Drink lots of water, keep walking, eat as many healthy meals a week as possible.

5. Work creative time & organized computer time into my daily routine.

6. Get the Princess Potty Trained & sleeping in her own bed

7. Create Emergency Kits for the family & update the first aid kit.

8. Continue with my daily routine & habit building (www.flylady.net) I will be fully flying this year!
